What is a forest?
How do we use forests?
What is happening to our forests?
Forests of the future
This activity is a baseline activity for measuring the impact of the global learning. The pupils should take part in the activity at the beginning of this section or at the beginning of the input on global forests, and then repeat it at the end of the input.
Ask pupils, 'How can I make the world a better place?' Pupils can discuss their ideas in groups, but should each write their own responses onto post-its. Each idea needs to be on a separate post-it. Depending on the class, either ask the pupils to plot their responses onto the recording sheet.
Classify the comments by putting a mark in the appropriate section of the table. For example, a comment about litter in the playground is local/environmental sustainability; a comment about climate change is global/sustainability; a comment about giving money to a charity is local/social justice and a comment about fair trade is global/social justice.
